weeknotes 4
highlights
- Made some homemade tomato soup & grilled cheeses for some friends & had a craft night
- I made the recipe on my own and I’m very proud of it. I <3 my immersion blender.
- Finalized the menu for thanksgiving and ordered some turkey and bread so i don’t have to worry about cooking those day of
- My partner and I always host, but didn’t feel like going all-out this year.
- Started reading Little Weirds by Jenny Slate
- Loving this so far. It’s so visceral.
- My partner set up a self hosted instance of hoarder for me and wow, this bookmark manager has blown me away.
- I just appreciate how much love was put into this software. The author really cares about this project and it shows - the UX is great.
- There’s even an API! I’ve been thinking about how I want to make a links page and I think this API is it.
- I came to the realization this week that I need to start looking for a new job, at minimum. Ideally, I wish I could take a sabbatical but it doesn’t seem like the best idea with a country on the brink of fascism and an impending economic downturn during a white collar recession.
- This is less than ideal for many reasons, but God is change.
- To the point above, I started updating my professional site this week! I built in custom functionality for a markdown blog in NextJS.
- Even though MDX is supported out of the box in Next, I don’t want to use it. I have a very opinionated way of handling content and code in my sites.
- Even though it was pretty difficult for me, I spent a ton of time weaving packages and some node functions together to make all of the functionality with no trade-offs! Yippee.
- Took care of planning some appointments and errands I have been putting off.
website updates
- Added a new recipe to my recipe page: tomato soup
media
- I’ve started playing Cult of the Lamb again as they’ve released 2 major updates since I played last. Gosh, this game is so good. This is definitely one of the most addicting gameplay loops of all time.
- Law and Order: SVU season 9 has been insane. Wow, I completely understand what people mean when they say this show hits its true stride around this time. I love this messy copaganda filled with horrible people.
This week was definitely a mentally heavy one for me. It was hard to keep up with my routine and update my weeknotes throughout the week, so this entry is a little sparse. I’m hoping next week I can start to feel a little less stressed!
