2x2 Rib Worsted Hat Pattern
I keep seeing all of the trendy hipster beanies, and now it's time for my own.
Note: This is my size, and i have a very small head. So you may want to cast on more stitches as long as the amount is a multiple of 4.
- Cast on 98 stitches using the longtail cast on
- knit 2, purl 2
- Decrease crown: Split the stitches into even sections that are a multiple of 4, so that the 2x2 rib doesn’t get interrupted as much. I split mine into sections of 9 stitches. Decrease the last 2 stitches in the section.
- Example: knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 1, then purl 2 together for the very first increase.
- Knit/purl stitches as they appear for next round.
- Once you have around 20-30 stitches, start decreasing every round, disregarding the rib pattern to shape the crown
- when there’s about 10 stitches left, or you simply cannot stand to decrease anymore, cut the yarn and leave a very long tail.
- Cinch the top shut with the tapestry needle by weaving in the tail into the stitches on your needles.
- Weave in the ends and done!
